Floral Coffee

There are lots of factors that affect whether a coffee has floral notes, from the variety of coffee beans its made, to the soil it's grown in, right through to how it's roasted before it arrives with you.

Refine
House Blend 05 - Colombia / Ethiopia Coffee

Notes of:

Blackberry Dark Chocolate Violet

Roast:

Medium brown in colour with more of a balance of acidity, flavour and aroma, medium roasted coffee has a richer consistency than light roast. It also doesn’t have the oily surface you’ll see in the darker roasts.

Floral Coffee

Just like wine, coffee can be categorised by a range of flavour notes from fruity to nutty to chocolate to floral, and everything in between. Coffee tasters use the coffee flavour wheel to decide how to describe a coffee's flavour notes and aromas, to help you explore other coffees you might like. There are lots of factors that affect whether a coffee has floral notes, from the variety of coffee beans its made, to the soil it's grown in, right through to how it's roasted before it arrives with you.

Does it have flavouring in it?

No, the notes in a coffee occur naturally and can smell and taste like lots of different flowers from jasmine to elderflower, rose to hibiscus., and can be sweet or herbal. Arabica beans tend to have more floral notes, but beans grown at high altitudes or prepared using wet-processing can also have beautiful floral flavours. Some flavours are more prominent than others, and usually paired with other notes like fruit and citrus.

What should I buy if I like floral flavours?

Many Ethiopian coffees use wet-processing methods and as a result, produce a delicious finish. The single origin Ethiopian coffee beans in both our Explorers Collection and Roots range - grown in the Yirgacheffe region - are packed with floral and fruity citrus flavours, perfect for drinking all day long and bought by us for a price that goes above and beyond fair trade.

What roast should I choose?

We treat our Ethiopian beans to a medium roast to add depth to the natural floral flavour, packing them when they're perfectly roasted and ground to lock in their fresh, delicious flavour. Ethiopia may not be a country you've explored when it comes to coffee, but if you love a bean with a floral note, your search could well be over.
