Espresso Ground Coffee

Espresso ground coffee

Brewing the perfect espresso comes down to a few different factors, but choosing the right coffee in the first place is key. For a perfectly balanced shot with a silky smooth crema, you need finely ground espresso coffee to ensure every cup comes out just right, from a coffee bean that's been roasted to perfection. Ready to start your search for your new favourite espresso ground coffee? Here's everything you need to know.

Finely ground coffee = optimum extraction

To get the most out of your ground coffee, you need as much surface area as possible to allow the water to extract all the taste and aroma you expect from a great espresso. So, whether you're grinding your own beans or buying your coffee ready ground, using single origin or a great blend, it's important to get the right grind on your coffee.

Choose a coffee you love

While some varieties of coffee beans lend themselves better to espresso, how you grind it is more what makes it what it is. All the single origin and blended coffees in our shop tell you which coffee brewing equipment they work best with, so there's no need to search, and it's really a case of experimenting with the flavour profiles you prefer in your espresso. Experiment with different countries of origins, or choose a blend, to see which espresso roast works best for you.

Pick a coffee with the right roast

Most baristas will choose a medium or medium dark roast for their espresso coffee beans to give you the more intense taste you'd expect of an espresso. Beans with a higher roast level also release more of their natural oils, which creates a richer mouthfeel and a great crema. While you could technically put light roast coffee through your machine, it's unlikely to result in a great coffee. Light roasts tend to have less body and more acidity, meaning an espresso brewed with light roast coffee wouldn't deliver the delicious rich drinking experience you'd expect.

Go beyond a shot

A shot is the start of so many drinks, so you don't have to just drink it straight up. Try blending your favourite coffee with steamed and frothy milk for a range of great tasting coffees, better than you'll find in your local coffee shop.
